Lucknow : At least six students of a government-run college were injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district Wednesday when a private security guard fired accidentally from his gun, police said.
The incident took place at Vivekanand Polytechnic College in Fatehpur town when the guard, Ashok Kumar, accidentally fired from a rifle while a group of students were looking at a notice board for seating arrangements for their examination.
“While Ashok was examining the rifle of another guard out of curiosity, he accidentally fired from the rifle. This left six students injured,” police inspector P.S. Sharma told reporters in Saharanpur, about 500 km from here.
“After the bullet hit the tile floor, the students were injured with the pellets and cemented particles. All the injured students are being treated at a hospital, where the condition of two is stated to be serious,” he added.
“A case would be registered against Ashok,” the police officer said.
