Cheriyathayyil Faisal (31), Poovullathil Ajnas (23) and Poovullathil Sabeelullah (31), all natives of Narikkatteri and suspected activists of the Muslims League, were arrested by the team consisting of Crime Branch detective Inspector Dhananjay Babu, SI Valsaraj, ASIs Pradeep Kumar and Surendran.

Yesterday’s arrest has brought the total number of those arrested in connection with the case to five, the other two being Ismail and Ittoli Kunjammed who were arrested for the alleged links with the cheque leaf collected from the spot.

The incident took place around 9.30 pm on February 26 at Narikkatteri near Nadapuram. The blast took place in an abandoned farm when suspected Muslim League members were making bombs. Five young men – Sameer (22), Shabeer (25), Rafeeq (26), Riyas (28) and Shabeer (21) – were killed in the deadly blast. However, after the blasts, the Muslim League stated that those involved in bomb-making were not its members and the party had no affiliation with violence.

There had been clashes between the Muslim League and the CPI (M) in the area in connection with the Panchayat elections held late last year. The clashes got intensified after the elections and led to hurling of bombs at the houses of each other’s members. In November, some CPI (M) members also were injured in a blast that took place while making bombs.
