Bangalore : Former Karnataka chief minister H. D. Kumaraswamy and his wife and legislator Anita were summoned by a court to appear before it Aug 30 over grant of mining lease and favouring a housing society by flouting rules.
The summons were issued by Additional City Civil and Sessions Court Judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao on a complaint by an advocate, Vinod Kumar.
Kumar charged Kumaraswamy with grant of mining lease to Jantakkal company flouting laws and illegally allotting land to a housing society which in return gave a residential plot to his wife, Anita Kumaraswamy.
Kumaraswamy, the Janata Dal-Secular state unit president, was chief minister of the JDS-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government in 2006-7. His wife represents Madhugiri seat in the assembly.
Karnataka Lokayukta (ombudsman) has also named Kumaraswamy in his report on illegal mining scam. The Lokayutka found that Kumaraswamy had granted lease to two mining companies violating rules.
Sudhindra Rao, however, dismissed Kumar’s complaint against Kumaraswamy’s father, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, and brothers H.D. Balakrishna Gowda and his Kavita, and H. D. Revanna and his wife Bhavani.
The complaint claims that Kumaraswamy had given officials just two hours to grant the lease Janatakkal Mining Co.
The ex-chief minister is said to have allotted 70 acres to Vishwabharathi Housing Cooperative Society in Bangalore. The society in return favoured his wife Anita with a 100ft x 150ft residential plot.
