Islamabad : At least 16 people have died as torrential rains lashed Pakistan’s Sindh province, officials said Friday.
Hundreds of houses have collapsed and many localities have been submerged, Online news agency reported.
Six members of a family died and four were injured as the roof of their house fell in Mirpur Khas town. Six people died in in Tando Allah Yar district and nearby areas.
Roof collapses claimed two lives elsehwere while two people were swept away in Pangrew, where a 200-feet breach occurred in a dyke.
The administration has declared emergency in the district. Thousands of acres of cotton and sugarcane crops have been destroyed as water inundated the fields.
More than 25 oil and gas fields in Badin town have been submerged.
