Ranchi : Businessmen here kept their shops closed till Friday noon to support activist Anna Hazare’s cause against corruption.
India Against Corruption’s Jharkhand chapter called a shutdown till noon in the state in support of Anna Hazare. The business community of Ranchi supported the call and kept their shops closed till midday.
“We kept our shops closed till noon to support Hazare. Businessmen are also suffering from corruption in government offices,” shopkeeper Ajay Ghosh said.
People from various sections of the society are coming forward to support Hazare in Jharkhand. Children, youths and old people gather in groups at different roundabouts of Ranchi, Jamshedpur and other districts and shout slogans in favour of Hazare.
In the evening, candlelight processions take place at various places of Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and other districts.
“Anna, who is 74 years old, has turned out to be a youth icon. Youths are coming forward to take part in peaceful protest,” IAC member Sanjay Seth told IANS.
“Youth support for Anna should be an eye opener for Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who claims himself as a youth icon,” he added.
