Islamabad : Pakistan’s parliament has formed a 17-member committee to review the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, a media report said Sunday.
The current spate of violence in Karachi that erupted in July has left over 300 people dead. At least 185 people have been arrested in the southern port city for involvement in target killings, extortion, land grabbing and narcotics deals.
The committee was finalised by National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza, Online news agency reported.
It was formed after demands from all political parties.
The committee would comprise five MPs from the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), four from each from the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PML-Quaid and one each from the Awami National Party (ANP), the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazlur (JUI-F).
The committee would also review the situation in Balochistan and submit its final report to parliament.
