New Delhi: Ahead of the debate in the Lok Sabha on the Lokpal bill, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal appealed to members to help pass the legislation and hoped political parties will not press their amendments.
He said the government will seek discussion on the Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill, 2011, and the Constitution (Amendment) Bill to give the anti-corruption ombudsman a constitutional status.
He said that Public Interest Disclosure and Protection to Persons Making the Disclosures Bill, 2010, (the whistle-blower protection bill) will also be discussed during the extended winter session.
“I appeal to all members to join in passing the legislation,” Bansal told NDTV news channel.
Hoping that the political parties will not move amendments to the bill, he said that law-making was a dynamic process and changes can be made in the legislation subsequently based on the experience gained.
The winter session has been extended Dec 27-29 to enable the two houses to pass the Lokpal and the attendant constitutional amendment bills.
