Bhopal : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which celebrated the 87th birthday of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sunday, should always respect the veteran leader, his relative said.
“It is for the first time that the party is celebrating his (Vajpayee’s) birthday in such a grand way. But they should do it always. Since the last few elections, we were feeling very bad that the party which grew because of Atalji, did not remember him,” Vajpayee’s niece Rekha Shukla told IANS.
Shukla, the daughter of Vajpayee’s late elder brother Prem Bihari Vajpayee, said she last met him in July.
“He had recognised us but could talk very little…his health was not good,” she said.
BJP-ruled states issued advertisements and marked the day as ‘sushasan’ (good governance) day.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan even went to Delhi to meet Vajpayee, and announced that every government office in state would have the leader’s picture.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born in Gwalior Dec 25, 1924.
