In a statement to press after an extraordinary meeting held here Wednesday, the IRA said, “Any work or behavior that leads to blood shedding or instigate sedition is haram, or religiously prohibited.”

The widely-respected Islamic institution also called on all involved parties to resort to dialogue to help contain the crisis, iron out differences, maintain people’s security and depriving foreign forces from interfering in Egypt’s affairs.

The IRA, which includes in its membership a galaxy of the most senior Muslim scholars in Egypt, noted that the right of expression should not jeopardize the sovereign interests of the state, at the forefront of which is the country’s safety.

“Maintaining the security of the state is considered a noble Islamic goal that comes before any other goal,” it said. The IRA also commended both military and people’s efforts to protect Egyptians and their properties and expressed hope that this crisis would end soon for the better of Egypt and all Egyptians.
