New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will soon question Dayanidhi Maran, who resigned as a union minister Thursday, for his alleged role in pressurising former Aircel director C. Sivasankaran to sell his stake to a Malaysia-based group, an official said here.
“Maran will be quizzed on the allegations levelled by Sivasankaran and on the spectrum policy changes made during his tenure,” said the official.
The investigative agency had already registered a preliminary enquiry on the issue of spectrum allocation during the period 2001 to 2007.
“We are examining the money transactions of Sun TV, whose owner is Maran’s brother Kalanithi and (Malaysia-based) Maxis Communications. We are also looking into takeover of Aircel by Maxis group,” said the official.
Sivasankaran last month told the CBI that he was forced to sell stake in his company after his applications for a telecom licence was rejected by Maran in 2006.
Sivasankaran went to the CBI office here June 6 on his own to meet officials investigating the 2G spectrum allocation.
“He alleged that his applications for licences were rejected when Dayanidhi Maran was the telecom minister in 2006,” said the official.
Sivasankaran also alleged that he was forced sell his stake in Aircel to Maxis Communications, whose owner is reportedly close to the two Marans.
