Abu Dhabi : UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has called United Arab Emirates (UAE) minister of foreign affairs, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to inform him on the humanitarian crisis in Somalia.
During the telephonic conversation, Sheikh Abdullah briefed Ban on the measures taken by the UAE to tackle the famine situation in the Horn of Africa region.
A UAE delegation will soon head to Somalia capital Mogadishu to conduct humanitarian operations to deliver food aid to famine-affected people.
A UN report says around 3.7 million people, or nearly half of the Somali population, is now estimated to be suffering from the drought-induced famine.
