Beijing : Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang has reiterated the importance of creating jobs for millions of college graduates.
Zhang said Thursday that he believed the employment situation for prospective job seekers would be difficult this year, reports Xinhua news agency.
Zhang’s remarks came two days after the State Council, or China’s cabinet, issued a circular asking local authorities to create supportive policies that will help college graduates find jobs.
Zhang urged relevant authorities and universities to map out detailed plans and provide employment counselling services to ensure that soon-to-be graduates can find jobs more easily.
To create more jobs for college graduates, efforts should be made to develop knowledge- and technology-intensive companies, he said.
According to figures from the ministry of human resources and social security, China will have about 6.6 million college graduates in 2011. In 2010, the figure was 6.3 million.
