New Delhi: Over Rs.260,000 was collected was donated by supporters Wednesday during the day-long fast by Anna Hazare to protest the crackdown on Baba Ramdev and his anti-graft agitation, representatives of India Against Corruption (IAC) said.
“A total of Rs.260,285 has been collected. The details will be given on our website,” an IAC representative announced as the token fast ended here.
Hazare was on a day-long fast outside Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Rajghat to protest the midnight crackdown and violence by police at yoga guru Ramdev’s agitation at the Ramlila Ground Saturday midnight.
The money was collected in sheets which were being taken around the venue by volunteers.
“We will be publishing the details on our website on where we used this money. A lot of donations also came from the police personnel deputed here, which proves they are one of us and support us from their hearts,” the representative said.
The IAC is an umbrella body under which civil society activists have been demanding a strong anti-graft Lokpal bill.
Lokpal bill drafting committee co-chair Shanti Bhushan, members Prashant Bhushan and Arvind Kejrival and activists Kiran Bedi and Swami Agnivesh were also present at the fast venue.
