Trinamool worst right wing political force: Buddhadeb

Kolkata: Dubbing the Trinamool Congress as the “worst type of right wing political force”, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has alleged that the opposition party was trying to hoodwink the people by raising leftist slogans.

“This is the worst type of right wing political force. The Trinamool Congress was formed, and continues to function, with the one and only aim of unseating the Left Front government,” Bhattacharjee said in an interview to the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) mouthpiece People’s Democracy.

Bhattacharjee is a politburo member of the CPI-M, the major constituent of the Left Front which has ruled the state uninterruptedly since 1977. However, the ruling combine now faces its stiffest challenge ever from the Trinamool-Congress-led opposition in the April-May assembly polls.

Coming down heavily on the Trinamool, Bhattacharjee said it’s only “political, ideological” essence was anti-communism.

“They have no political agenda except for that. They have no other economic, social programme. Naturally, they do not have any political morality as well,” said Bhattacharjee in the interview.

The interview will be carried in the People’s Democracy’s special issue on the state which will hit the stands Sunday.

“They are raising some slogans recently with leftist fervour. This is a ploy to hoodwink the people,” said the chief minister.

He alleged that “degenerated” ultra-left Maoists have ganged up with parties like the Trinamool to dislodge the Left Front “by hook and crook”.

“They have thrown away all moral and political justifications just to oppose the left… the Congress has also joined them as a junior partner,” Bhattacharjee added.
