Two women rewarded, 2,000 jailed on Women’s Day

Bhopal: While Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was presenting awards to two brave women on International Women’s Day Tuesday, around two thousand tribal women were being rounded up by the police as they marched to his house to demand ownership papers to their land in Madhya Pradesh.

Chouhan give away Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Samaj Sewa and Rani Awanti Bai Veerta awards to Santosh Soni and Nitu Agrawal, respectively, at Samanway Bhavan here.

However, a few kilometres away, at least 2,000 tribal women, under the banner of Action Aid NGO, were arrested by the police as they were marching towards the chief minister’s house.

“Today, we had gathered from 28 districts of the state. But police held us at different locations and sent atleast 2,000 to jail,” Sarika Sinha of Action Aid told IANS from the Central Jail.
