Birmingham : Indian ace Saina Nehwal overcame the challenge of Chinese Taipei’s Tzu Ying Tai 21-17, 21-17 to advance to the quarterfinals of the All England Badminton Championships, the game’s most prized tournament.

The World No.5 will take on Japan’s Eriko Hirose, world No.17, in the last eight.

The ace shutter had defeated South Korea’s Seung He Bae in the first round.

The women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa, however, lost a close second round match to Denmark’s Line Damkjaer Kruse and Marie Roepke 21-17, 19-21, 18-21.

Jwala and her mixed doubles partner V. Diju were outplayed 21-18, 21-13 by the Chinese pair of Tao Jiaming and Qing Tian in the second round.

The men’s doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas lost to eighth-seed Indonesian pair of Ahsan Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano 16-21, 16-21.
