Islamabad : Pakistani Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani told Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani about the US operation against Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden at 2 a.m. that night, a media report said Wednesday.
Gilani told the Senate Wednesday that Kayani was the first to inform him about the operation. The general called up the prime minister at 2 a.m., Dawn reported.
US commandos gunned down Osama May 2. The commandos had flown into Abbottabad city onboard four stealth helicopters, one of which was blown up after it developed a snag.
The prime minister said Pakistan has not been isolated after the Abbottabad operation and that the international community was still supporting them.
Gilani stressed that Osama had not been invited to Pakistan.
Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan had said last week that if US special forces on four helicopters could skip four airbases on their way to Abbottabad, carry out a 40-minute operation and return without any engagement from this side, “people have a right to ask so many questions which the government will have to respond”.
