Bhopal: Speaking in cricket parlance, All India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh has predicted that the third wicket of the Bharatiya Janata Party, (BJP), in the shape of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh, would fall when he would be asked by the BJP high command to quit on the issue of corruption.

Against the backdrop of a court giving ‘clean chit’ to the CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the “dumper scam” following a Lokayukta (Vigilance Commisioner) report, Singh said his party had lost faith in State Lokayukta, P.P. Navlekar.

Singh said when Navlekar was appointed as the Lokayukta by the CM Chauhan, whom he later probed in the dumper case in which Chouhan was allegedly involved and hence the appointment made by a person against whom a probe is being conducted, is unconstitutional.

Highlighting the alleged loopholes in the Lokayukta’s clean chit to the CM, Digvijay also said, that the Lokayukta did not see from where the money for the dumpers came from. Even the land which has been shown as sold for raising the money has not been registered yet and the control over the land is still with the Chief Minister.

Singh alleged that it was surprising that the company that was hiring the dumper was also ready to give guarantee for the loan. He said wrong affidavit was furnished in purchasing the dumpers which was registered on the address of Rewa. This is crime under Motor Vehicle Act.

Singh further said Congress would challenge the closure report of Lokayukta in the Madhya Pradesh High Court and will ensure that the corruption is proved. He also said he had several proof and evidences against the Madhya Pradesh government.

It may be mentioned here that a court had given a clean chit to Chief Minister Chouhan in the “Dumper scam” in which he was accused of misusing his official position to rent out dumper trucks to an industrial house as a quid pro quo for allotting a mining lease. The “Dumper scam”, as the Opposition called it, had troubled Chouhan and his wife Sadhna Singh, in whose name the dumpers were purchased, with him maintaining that no irregularities were committed.

The case had been registered against Chouhan and his wife in November 2007.
