New Delhi : India and United Kingdom are exploring possibilities of cooperation in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) protection technologies, an offshoot of their recent arrangement to collaborate in defence technologies.
Discussion in this regard was carried out between the defence scientists of the two countries earlier this week.
India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief controller of research and development, Dr. William Selvamurthy, led a delegation to the United Kingdom from Oct 3 to 6.
“The primary objective of the visit of the DRDO’s experts was to interact with their counterparts, both in United Kingdom’s Defence Ministry and in the CBRN unit of the Office of Security and Counter Terrorism (OSCT) under its home ministry,” a DRDO release said here Friday.
Seamus Tucker of the OSCT and his team of experts presented CBRN capability in technology, civil-military interactions and inter-operability to the Indian delegation during the visit.
The CBRN defence technologies developed by DRDO were presented along with their applications in the major international sporting events for protection of the sports personnel and the spectators, the release added.
“Good practices and lessons learned for CBRN defence during Commonwealth Games-2010 organised in New Delhi were also shared with the United Kingdom team, who are preparing for the forthcoming London Olympics in July next year.”
“The visit has opened many new avenues and possibilities for bringing in synergy between India and United Kingdom in CBRN defence technology development, and training of large cross section of stake-holders including military, para-military, police and other concerned civilian agencies for CBRN preparedness, response and mitigation,” the release added.
