Five-day week in Pakistan offices to save energy

Islamabad : In a bid to conserve energy, a five-day week will be observed in all public and private offices from Oct 15.

The interior ministry Thursday issued the notification for observance of two weekly holidays at all the public and private offices with effect from Oct 15, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

The cabinet in its meeting held Wednesday decided that a five-day working week shall be observed in the country to conserve energy.

According to the notification, “The selected operational branches of the commercial banks shall, however, continue to work on Saturdays, to facilitate the corporate customers and businesses in their financial transactions”.

The office timing shall be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Monday to Thursday, with half an hour lunch and prayer break at 1 p.m.

On Friday the office timing shall also be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with one and a half hour lunch and Friday Prayer break from 12.30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The timings will be observed with immediate effect.
