Mumbai Fighters name Shiv Kumar Pal as head coach

Mumbai : The Mumbai Fighters Friday appointed Shiv Kumar Pal as head coach for the World Series of Boxing (WSB) starting from November.Pal has been into coaching for over 25 years and has been associated with Indian boxing in various capacities. He began as the coach in-charge of the junior and sub-junior national team and moved to the senior ranks in 1992. More recently, Pal has been with the senior women’s national team since 2006.

“Shiv Kumar Pal, for his sheer experience in coaching Indian boxers, brings a lot of value for Mumbai Fighters,” team principal Udit Sheth said in a statement.

“I welcome him and assure that in tow with our technical director Joe Clough, Pal will bring favourable results for the team.”

On Pal’s appointment, Clough said: “My understanding of Indian boxing’s culture will only get better with Pal’s entry to Mumbai Fighters. His know-how of boxing in the country is immense and that will help us realise our ultimate goal of bringing the best out of our boxers.”

Mumbai Fighters, the team consisting of 20 boxers including seven foreigners would enter the rings at WSB from Nov 11.

The dates for Fighters’ home matches will be decided in about a week’s time.

Mumbai Fighters is the 13th franchise of WSB.
