Islamabad : At least five people, including four students, were killed Tuesday afternoon when gunmen fired indiscriminately at a school bus near Peshawar in northwest Pakistan, media reports said.
The attack took place at about 1.30 p.m. when the private school bus was ambushed by gunmen in the Matni area of Peshawar, Xinhua reported citing a TV report.
The assault happened as the school bus was on its way to Peshawar from Kohat, a city some 60 km south of Peshawar.
Eyewitnesses said that the gunmen first fired a rocket at the bus and then opened fire at it.
An estimated 20 people, including 17 students, were on the bus when it was attacked.
Some reports said that all the five dead were students while other reports stated the five dead comprised the driver and four students.
Two teachers on the bus were also injured.
No group has as yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
