Moscow : Russia has sent 50,000 tonnes of food aid to North Korea, which is facing a shortage of food this year.
Russia’s state-owned firm United Grain Company has sent two shipments of food aid, Xinhua reported citing a statement.
The first batch of 25,000 tonnes has already arrived in North Korea, while the second shipment of 24,500 tonnes left the Russian port of Novorossiysk Sunday.
The foreign ministry said the delivery of food aid will end in September. Russia regards this humanitarian operation as “a contribution to the traditionally neighbourly relations between people of the two countries”.
