Yangon : Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party has won 40 of the 45 parliamentary seats so far in the recently held by-elections in Myanmar.
Winners of five other parliamentary seats will be announced in the next round of results, the election commission said Monday.
Of the 40 seats won by NLD, 35 were for House of Representatives, three for House of Nationalities and two for state parliament.
The NLD has won all seats of the House of Representatives in Yangon’s six constituencies and all four seats in Nay Pyi Taw constituencies, Xinhua reported.
A total of 157 candidates contested in Sunday’s by-elections. Of the 45 seats, 37 were for House of Representatives, six for House of Nationalities and 2 for State parliament.
The election was observed by over 150 international observers, foreign diplomats, UN officials and mediapersons.
