Pune : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday demanded the sacking of Maharashtra Home Minister R. R. Patil for his alleged failure to maintain law and order in the state.
A BJP delegation led by Vinod Tawde met Governor K. Sankaranarayanan here to make the demand.
Tawde said a fortnight ago Pune witnessed four explosions. On Saturday there was violence in Mumbai leading to the death of two people.
Alleging “a breakdown of law and order” in the state, he urged the governor to demand Patil’s resignation.
Tawde also demanded the suspension of Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik saying the morale of the city police had sunk on account of his “irresponsible” behaviour.
Earlier, the Republican Party of India demanded stringent action against the perpetrators of violence Saturday and the attacks on the media.
