Delhi disaster mock drill held at 33 spots

New Delhi: A mega mock drill was organised Tuesday at 33 locations in Delhi, including eight simulation exercises at ground, to check medical response system of hospitals during disasters.

The drill was jointly coordinated by Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

“The basic purpose of this exercise was to assess and improve the capacity of emergency response with special focus on medical sector and manage mass casualty disaster situations,” said a statement from the Delhi government.

The simulation exercises were held at a ground in north Delhi’s Burari, it said.

In the various scenarios enacted during the mock drill the disaster machinery dealt with the overall scenario of 164 dead, 143 seriously injured, 497 people with major injuries and 461 with minor injuries, it added.
