Responding to a query on Karnataka’s position on the sharing of Cauvery water, Karunanidhi said: “I don’t want to fault a state government in hurry. For a long time, I have maintained that Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are neighbouring states and they should have friendly relations.”

He said the CRA was formed by the states through which the Cauvery river flows, with the assistance of the central government.

At the time of forming the CRA, it was agreed that the Cauvery basin states (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry) would abide by the decisions of the authority.

“I am of the firm view that without sufficient reasons, nobody should violate that decision,” Karunanidhi said.

Dismissing the rumours about his health condition, he urged people not to believe mischievous elements.

Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are fighting a case in the Supreme Court over sharing of the river water.
