Raipur : The Chhattisgarh assembly’s winter session, starting Tuesday, will be stormy with the opposition Congress deciding to raise issues of corruption and scandals allegedly engineered by the Raman Singh-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
The brief session will conclude on Dec 21 with a total of only seven sittings.
“We will not allow the house to transact business smoothly. The Congress members will strongly raise corruption and scandals engineered by BJP government in the state since December 2003 when it took charge of the state,” said a Congress source.
The source stated that the Congress would also raise the issue of the state government’s decision to form a joint venture with a company owned by the BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Ajay Sancheti for mining two key coal blocks in Surguja district.
However, the coal ministry recently de-allocated both the coal blocks on recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG).
“There are several major issues that the BJP government has to clarify in the assembly. Besides the corruption issue, the BJP regime has to reply about collapse of law and order,” said the Congress leader.
The Congress claimed that people in the state were feeling insecure in wake of the abduction of a schoolgirl last week in full public view from the heart of Raipur though she was released unharmed after police intensified search for her.
Sources in the BJP, meanwhile, said that the party would hold its legislature party meeting Tuesday night to work out its strategy to counter the Congress.
In the 90-member house, the BJP has 49 members while the Congress has 39. The Bahujan Samaj Party has two.
