Chandigarh : Two more cases were Monday slapped against former Uttarakhand Minorities Commission chief S.S. Namdhari, already accused of murder, for alleged use of illegal means to obtain arms licences and passport, a Punjab official said here.
“Perusal of the report by Punjab’s home secretary prima facie leads to the conclusion that Namdhari resorted to illegal means to provide fake residence proof to obtain the arms licences and passport in Punjab,” an official spokesperson of the Punjab government said here late Monday.
Namdhari and his personal security officer were arrested by Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in the killing of liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother at a Delhi farm house last month. At present, both of them are in judicial custody.
The Punjab government spokesperson said: “It has been recommended in the report that a criminal case should be lodged against the fugitive at state crime police station in Mohali and the accused be brought on production remand for investigation.”
Namdhari is a resident of Bazpur in Uttarakhand. His passport was seized by the regional passport office in Jalandhar Nov 27.
The report said that Namdhari had given misleading details and concealed information of about 13 criminal cases registered against him in Uttarakhand, the spokesperson said.
The report, which was submitted to Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal Monday, said that Namdhari adopted illegal means to obtain a fake ration card and did not disclose the factual position about the place of his residence and educational qualification, while applying for passport.
