New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tuesday issued notices to Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh over the alleged corporal punishment meted out to two school students, resulting in the death of one.
“A nine-year-old student of Ushodaya Merit School in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, was beaten by his teacher for not covering his books properly. She beat him on his left hand, which had an iron rod implant due to a fracture, resulting in serious injuries,” NHRC said in a statement.
“In the other incident, 10-year-old Aslam Ansari, a Class 4 student of a government primary school at Pathakheda in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh, was beaten up brutally by two teachers when he failed to satisfy them that he had not broken a bucket in the school. The boy succumbed to injuries to his backbone and neck,” the statement added.
The incidents appeared in locals newspapers, following which the NHRC raised with the state governments the issues of violation of human rights of the students.
The authorities have been given four weeks to submit their reports to the commission.
