New AMU VC decides not to take any policy decision

Aligarh: The new Vice Chancellor (interim) of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. S. Mehdi Abbas Rizvi has decided that he would abstain from taking any policy decision and will observe the restraints laid down on the powers of the outgoing Vice Chancellor by the Human Resource Development Ministry. He said he will perform the routine work only.

Soon after taking over the charge of Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology held meetings with the University officials, Deans of faculties and Principals of Colleges. He emphasized that the environment of mutual cooperation and trust will be maintained in the University and all the rules and regulations will be strictly adhered to in all procedures and work.

Prof. Rizvi has decided that he will not make any fresh appointment on daily wages and the purchase of equipment or allotment of contracts for all services will remain suspended till a permanent Vice Chancellor is appointed. He also decided not to use the emergency powers vested in him under section 19(3) of the AMU Act. He, however, emphasized that the pending court cases will be pursued vigorously, said Dr. Rahat Abrar, Public Relations Officer, AMU.

Prof. Rizvi has decided to invite the office bearers of AMU Students’ Union and the AMU Teachers’ Association over a cup of tea in order to discuss different issues. He would also call a meeting of Provosts and Proctorial team in order to seek their cooperation for maintaining peace and discipline in the campus.
