New Delhi : Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar Monday questioned the timing of the India-Pakistan cricket series and need for reviving cricketing ties between the two countries when the Mumbai terror attack probe was still on.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Monday that Pakistan will play three one-dayers and two Twenty Internationals in December-January, a period when England will also be touring India for a four-match Test series, five ODIs and two T20s.

“My first reaction is that the free time players would have had between the England series, it is not going to be there anymore,” Gavaskar told NDTV.

“India are playing a strong side like England and with Pakistan also coming here around the same time, they are not going to get a breather between the Test and one-day matches. Players need the time to look after their injuries and get better,” he said.

Gavaskar asked the need for resuming India-Pakistan cricketing ties when the perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attacks have not been brought to justice.

“Being a Mumbaikar, I would say yes. What is the urgency when there is no co-operation from the other side. When you get away with something you tend to do it again,” he said.
