Kolkata : The house of a woman Congress leader, who has been a councillor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation for nearly two decades, was attacked here Monday night allegedly by Trinamool Congress activists.
“I have been councillor for 18 years but I have never faced such barbarism,” said Mala Roy, who is also the chief of south Kolkata Congress unit.
“Some 150-200 Trinamool activists and miscreants who have joined that party recently perpetrated havoc. They tried to break my doors and windows. They were kicking the door and using abusive language,” she alleged.
She said her children were panic-stricken as the “goons” terrorised the entire locality.
Roy said the “vandalism” was triggered by an issue that had no connection with a councillor’s functioning.
“They were asking for my explanation on why there was a fault in power utility CESC’s high-tension line. I told them that councillors do not deal with power issues. But still I had taken it up with the power authorities.”
Roy is known as a leading figure of the anti-Trinamool camp in the Congress.
No police official was available for comment.
A local Trinamool leader denied the charges. “Nowadays, Trinamool is blamed for everything. This could be the handiwork of the Communist Party of India-Marxist. But whoever has done it, this is not right.”
