Guatemala City : A van-load of Guatemalan journalists covering President Otto Perez Molina’s visit to the northern province of Baja Verapaz had their equipment stolen Friday.
The theft took place in the town of Agua Salobrega when the reporters stopped to have breakfast, Raul Morales, the presidential correspondent for SN radio, told EFE.
While the journalists were eating, the thieves broke one of the van’s windows and grabbed video cameras, sound equipment and computers.
Morales said the thieves didn’t get his gear because he had stowed it under a seat.
Police investigating the crime told the reporters the theft was probably the work of an organized gang that has been active in the region, Morales said.
