“The Left parties will sit together and decide their stand. It will not be decided alone by the CPI or the CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) or any other party. We have not decided anything,” Dasgupta told media persons here.

He said the Left parties will make up their mind on the issue after the Congress made public its candidate.

“We must know who is the Congress candidate. After the Congress announces its candidate, after we know the whole situation, we will make up our mind,” the veteran CPI MP said.

Asked about former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma, who is lobbying for the top post and was slated to meet CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat in Delhi Tuesday, Dasgupta said such things would not influence the Left’s stand.

“Lobbying is part of Indian politics. It is nothing new. We have seen it in case of the 2G scam. It will not influence our decision,” he added.

The four Left parties – CPI-M, CPI, Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party – are likely to hold a meeting on the issue in Delhi Wednesday.
