New Delhi: Two Kashmiri students of Jamiatul Falah who were picked up on May 24th and subsequently released a week later has come under severe condemnation by Muslim leaders and organizations as another instance of police high-handedness.
A statement released by Dr. T. A. Rehmani of Muslim Political Council of India (MPCI) asked the Uniion Home Ministry to identify agencies behind the illegal detention of the two students.
“The agencies must justify as to why they were picked up if they were innocents and agencies had no proof against them, and if they were terrorists or terror suspects, as was claimed in next day media reports, why were they released then?”
Dr. Rehmani who is the president of MPCI, further said that “this has become a regular practice, agencies pick up innocent youths keep them in illegal custody, torture them and get confessions for crimes they have not committed. This practice is going on because of no accountability of the concern authorities for such illegal detentions.”
“The detention is completely illegal and violates the Supreme Court guidelines. Agencies and sleuths responsible for this should be identified by the central government, cases against them should be lodged and they should be punished. Only this can bring a check on such illegal detentions and arrests of the Muslim youths.”
Muslim Political Council of India is considering moving to the court to identify and punish the guilty officers and agencies.
