Dharna in Delhi to press for quick and long-term resolution of Assam issues

New Delhi: A dharna was organized under the banner of United Movement for Peoples Right, which is a conglomeration of 31 organizations, at Jantar Mantar.

Convenor of United Movement for Peoples Rights Brajen Mahanta, Hareshwar Barman, Shahjahan Talukdar, Abdur Rahman, Shahbuddin Ahmed, Dibyojyoti Baruah were present.



More than 150 people from Assam came to Delhi to sit at the Dharna. Many muslims leaders from Delhi also attended, prominent among them is president of Muslim Political Council Taslim Rahmani.

Main Demands presented:

1.No separate Bodoland dividing Assam.

2. Arms and ammunition shall be seized for restoring peace and Harmony in BTAD.

3. Immediately rehabilitate and reinstate the displaced and affected people living in different camps to their respective homes with adequate compensation.

4.Ensure Security of life and property.

5. Issue Fresh National Register of Citizen (NRC).

6. Immediately issue voters I-D card.



7. SIT shall be constituted to unearth the real culprits who conspired and give effect to ethnic cleansing at BTAD

8. Present BTC headed by Hagrama Mohilary be dissolved immediately and whole law and order situation be handed over to the Governor.

9. Bodo Accord 2003 be scrapped by taking into consideration of the interest of all communities living in the area and after due consideration with representative of all communities.
