SDPI opposes steep hike in diesel prices, calls for rollback

By TCN News,

New Delhi: The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), has strongly opposed the steep hike in diesel prices announced by the UPA Government. The party has also demanded its roll back with immediate effect as it would hit the common man adversely, especially the farmers during the peak paddy sowing season.

SDPI national president Mr. E. Abubacker in a Press statement said that the hike in diesel prices is expected to affect a wide gamut of transportation ranging from locomotives to heavy duty trucks, thereby leading a chain-effect on prices of goods. He said the common man who is already reeling under spiralling prices of essential commodities will be further burdened as it would make holes deeper in his pockets.

Mr. Abubacker said prices are already not under control, so this is going to contribute to overall inflation and create mayhem in the economy. He said it is intriguing that hike is being made despite a reduction in international crude prices. It seems as if the government is hand-in-gloves with the petroleum mafia to loot the common man. He slammed the government’s claim that the oil companies had poor recoveries.

He called for immediate roll back of the hike as it is a huge blow to the welfare of the poor people. The decision to steeply hike the diesel prices is highly unjustified, he added.
