Dikshit takes out rally for gang-rape victim

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday marched to Rajghat at the head of “a peace rally” in memory of the woman who was brutally gang-raped and died Dec 29.

The rally started from Bal Bhawan around 11.45 a.m. in central Delhi. By the time she reached Rajghat just over a kilometre away, thousands — especially women — joined the chief minister.

After the rally ended around 1.30 p.m., a condolence meeting was held at Rajghat.

State cabinet ministers Rajkumar Chauhan, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Kiran Walia, Ramakant Gosawami and Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Barkha Singh took part in the rally.

“We want immediate justice for the woman,” said Kamlesh, a social activist.

“Girls are not safe. The government should ensure our safety,” said Shivani, a third-year student of the local Janki Devi College.

“We want strict laws for crimes against women,” said Sarita, 35, who came from Najafgarh area of south Delhi.
