Five dead in Shanghai fire

Beijing : A massive fire at a market selling farm produce in Chinese business hub Shanghai killed at least five people and wounded 12 others, the city government said Monday.

The fire in Pudong district of Shanghai broke out Sunday night inside the dried farm goods wholesale market, the Shanghai Daily reported.

The blaze ruined about 2,000 square metres of the market area before it was put out an hour later.

Firefighters found five bodies at the scene and a 57-year-old woman who had burns over 80 percent of her body.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
