Raipur : Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Tuesday unearthed unaccounted assets worth over Rs.7 crore amassed by Commercial Tax (Enforcement) Deputy Commissioner Shankar Lal Agrawal.
Superintendent of Police (ACB) R.S. Nayak said an ACB team raided Agrawal’s house in Wallfort City, Ring Road-1 here and unearthed assets worth Rs.7-8 crore. The assets include a two-storey building in the posh Wallfort City and sprawling agricultural land in Raipur and Raigarh districts.
Nayak said Rs.4.20 lakh in cash were also seized from Agrawal’s residence. The officer’s bank account contains Rs.1.60 lakh and jewellery worth Rs.1 lakh.
Agrawal, a native of Raigarh, began his career as commercial-tax officer in 1983 with his first posting at Jagdalpur where he remained till 1987. He was made deputy commissioner of commercial tax department in 2009.
The ACB has registered cases against Agrawal under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
