New Delhi: Kerala Chief Minister Ooman Chandy Wednesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the return of two Italian marines guilty of killing two Indian fishermen.
Chandy met the prime minister around 12.30 a.m. at his office in parliament complex after Manmohan Singh made a statement in the Lok Sabha, warning of consequences for Italy if the the marines didn’t return.
“The prime minister’s statement is very strong and we hope Italy will obey the Indian law,” Chandy told reporters.
“It is very clear there will be no compromise, there will be no other way, they will have to come back to India and face the trial,” he said.
The Supreme Court in February allowed marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone to fly to Italy to vote in the national election. Italy promised the two would return to India.
The marines have been charged with killing two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast.
