MP Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker dead, cremated with state honours

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker and senior Congress leader and ex-minister Harvansh Singh died in the wee hours on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest.

Singh, 65, who is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter, was consigned to flames with full state honours at village Chhapara Khurd in Seoni district on Tuesday . He was elected from Keolari assembly seat.

The BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and large number or political leaders and common people attended the funeral. The Chief Minister placed a wreath over the body of late Harvansh Singh and shouldered his funeral bier. The Chief Minister participated in the funeral procession for 7 kilometers from village Barra to Chhapara Khurd.

Addressing a condolence meeting, Chief Minister Chouhan paid tributes to late Harvansh Singh reportedly saying that he was above political affiliations. He was a symbol of sober and courteous politics. He had good knowledge of legislative affairs and was an able administrator and organiser. He always showed impartiality while donning the chair of Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker. The state has lost a dedicated leader in his death. He prayed to Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this loss.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Kantilal Bhuria, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh “Rahul”, Shri Rameshwar Neekhra, Nakul Nath, Commissioner Public Relations Rakesh Shrivastava, other senior officers and large number of people attended the funeral and paid tributes to late Harvansh Singh.

Those who attended funeral of late Harvansh Singh included Vidhan Sabha Speaker Ishwardas Rohani, Animal Husbandry Minister Ajay Vishnoi, Health Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra, PHE Minister Gaurishankar Bisen, Minister of State for School Education Nanabhau Mohod, Minister of State for Agriculture Brijendra Pratap Singh, MPs K.D. Deshmukh and Basori Singh Masram, Rajya Sabha MP Faggan Singh Kulaste, MLAs Mrs. Neeta Pateriya, Shashi Thakur, Sanjay Pathak, Deepak Saxena, Kamal Marskole, State Finance Corporation Chairman Naresh Diwakar and Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation Indresh Gajbhiye.

Meanwhile, the state Governor Ram Naresh Yadav along with many others also condoled the death of Harvansh Singh and paid tributes to him.

General Administration Department of Madhya Pradesh Government had announced holiday in government departments in Seoni district on May 14, during which flags on the government buildings in the district remained at half mast. ([email protected])
