Kazakh PM Akhmetov resigns

Astana: Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov said Wednesday that he and his cabinet had resigned, media reported.

“In accordance with the constitution, the head of state has accepted my resignation,” Akhmetov told a government meeting.

“I want to thank President Nursultan Nazarbayev on behalf of myself and my government for his trust.”

Akhmetov said his government would keep working until a new government is formed, Xinhua reported citing the Interfax news agency.

Akhmetov, 55, a former first deputy prime minister, had been leading the government since September 2012.
