Mamata likens Assam carnage to Peshawar massacre

Kolkata : Extending support to over 1000 tribals from Assam who have taken refuge in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday condemned the ghastly militant attack in Assam, likening it to the Peshawar school massacre.

On her way to visit relief camps set up in Alipurduar area of the state, Banerjee said the administration was working to provide relief to the over 1000 people who have taken shelter.

“I am here to stand beside them in their hour of need. It’s not the time to indulge in politics, but to condemn the incident which in no way is smaller to the Peshawar school incident in which so many innocent lives were lost,” Banerjee told media.

“It’s a ghastly incident for which words are not enough to condemn,” she said.

Banerjee also called on the people to help the administration in providing relief to the affected people.

“More than 1000 people have already come here and more are coming. The administration is doing the needful with all its might but we need support. It will be great if people come forward and extend support to the needy especially considering the chilly weather,” she said.
