As soon as the day’s proceedings started, Congress legislators demanded that a statement be made in the house by the chief minister regarding the murder of youth leader Abhijit Rahman, allegedly by Trinamool Congress goons.

Banerjee did not attend the session during the day as she was busy with government programmes.

As soon as Speaker Biman Banerjee disallowed their request, the Congress members stood up, shouted slogans and walked out in protest. They decided not to participate in the day’s proceedings.

“Rahman was mercilessly murdered by Trinamool goons, we just wanted to have discussion on the issue as well as a statement from the chief minister, but the speaker denied it,” Congress Legislature Party Mohammed Sohrab later told media persons.

Sohrab also said the Congress leaders and workers are apprehensive of their security in the wake of alleged attacks by the “Trinamool-patronised goons”.

Rahman, a Youth Congress leader from Hooghly district, was killed Thursday. State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury visited his family Thursday night.
