Aligarh: “Muslim youth will have to first shed their fear that discrimination prevails against them in government jobs. Union Public Service Commission provides equal opportunities to all without any discrimination on any ground”, said Prof. D. P. Agrawal, Chairman, Union Public Service Commission today. He was addressing the inaugural session of Alumni Meet of the Aligarh Muslim University as Chief Guest.
Prof. Agrawal, who is an alumnus of this historical institution, urged AMU students to make up their mind for a maximum 20% share in government jobs while 20-25% youth should adopt entrepreneurship. He said that Muslims of the country need to generate and identify true leadership that takes along the whole society and does not isolate them from the mainstream.

Prof. Agrawal said that Aligarh Muslim University has always been dear to him as it is here he learnt the ethics of life and received training how to behave with elders. He said that AMU is not only an educational institution but it trains its students in manners and etiquettes of life and it is known for these attributes. He said that Sir Syed has given us the ideals to cherish and live with proudly.
UPSC Chairman observed that the world is facing new challenges on account of modern developments and educational institutions have greater responsibility to prepare generations to cope with them.
Defining the role of alumni, he said that their role has been recognized globally and top institutions of the world seek their cooperation for betterment of the institution. He said that their participation should be encouraged and welcomed at all levels. He urged AMU alumni to pay back and become a partner in development of their alma mater.
In his presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah said that as a source of inspiration, he is trying to gather the alumni force for an inclusive partnership in development of the University. He assured that the voice of alumni will be heard and replied within 48 hours.
Highlighting the significant aspects of his Vision Document-2020, Gen. Shah said that he is working towards placing AMU on Number one position in the country by 2017 and securing a place for it in the best universities in the world by 2020. He said that a comprehensive plan has been undertaken for the holistic development of the University. The University secured 75% placement for its engineering students during the last few years and separate placement cells have been established in all the departments of studies.
The Vice Chancellor said that all secondary schools of AMU have been upgraded to Senior Secondary level and a separate International Students’ hostel is under construction where accommodation will be provided to the children of alumni also.
President of Zakat Foundation and an alumnus of the University, Dr. S. Zafar Mahmood said that Sir Syed also wanted Muslim youth to take part in governance and this is why he constituted a “Civil Service Fund” in 1883. Dr. Mahmood welcomed the University’s decision to establish an Alumni Committee to deal with the alumni affairs and facilitate their meaningful participation.

AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. (Retd.) S. Ahmad Ali elaborated on the developmental woks carried during the last two years. He urged the faculty members and students of the university to focus on their studies and work for excellence in academics. He called the alumni as a motivating force.
Chairman of Alumni Affairs Committee, Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Prof. G. G. Dwivedi welcomed the guests and AMU Registrar, Group Captain (Retd.) Shahrukh Shamshad proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. F. S. Shirani, Coordinator, General Education Centre conducted the programme. On this occasion, Chancellor of Science University of Meghalaya, Mr. Mahboobul Haque and Mr. Qutub ur Rehman from UAE also addressed the audience.
A large number of AMU alumni from all parts of the globe are participating in the three day event.
