Dhaka : Bangladesh’s newly-elected lawmakers will be sworn in Thursday, a media report said.
The announcement came after a gazette was published Wednesday notifying the members of parliament-elect in the Jan 5 elections to the 10th parliament, the Daily Star reported.
Mired in controversy, the elections were held in just 147 out of 300 seats in 59 out of 64 districts in the country. As many as 153 candidates were elected unopposed amid a boycott by the main opposition party and its allies.
The election commission has announced final results in 139 seats out of the 147 contested. The Awami League led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has won a clear three-fourths majority in parliament.
Repolling will be held in the remaining eight constituencies Jan 16 since polling was suspended at many centres due to violence.
Hasina has thanked the people after she was re-elected to parliament.
