Pakistan continues firing at Indian posts on LoC

Jammu : The Pakistan Army Friday continued its unprovoked firing at Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, an official said.

“Pakistan Army violated ceasefire in Bhimber Gali sector of Poonch, using small arms, automatics and mortars to target our positions,” defence spokesman Lt. Col. Manish Mehta told IANS here.

“Our troops have retaliated with equal calibre weapons,” he said.

“Significant ceasefire violation in Rajouri and Poonch with reports of some shells having landed in civilian areas. Some livestock loss,” Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a tweet after the incident.

“Is it just a coincidence that the defence minister is visiting J&K, for his first visit, to review the security situation tomorrow?” he posed in a tweet.

The Pakistan Army started the firing at Indian positions such as Sawala Gali, Kanga Gali and Balakote areas along the LoC in the morning.

Police sources said two buffaloes belonging to villagers living close to the LoC were killed in the firing.

“Ambulances and medical supplies have been rushed to the affected area to meet any emergency situation,” a civil administration official told IANS.

One army soldier was killed and five were injured, including a Major, in two landmine blasts along the LoC in Poonch.
