Aligarh: A team of members of the Core Committee constituted for adoption of five villages as Model Villages located in the vicinity of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus visited Jarauthi, Bhimgarhi and Jattpura villages to assess the condition of these villages and identify potential work areas for designing a tentative action plan.
Professor N A K Durrani, dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, flagged off the team after an objective based assessment of the matter. The team comprised the faculty members Dr Naseem Ahmad Khan; Dr Mohammad Tahir; Dr Mohammad Arif Khan; Qurratul Aein Ali; Dr Andleeeb from Department of Social Work; Dr Anees Ahmad, Department of Community Medicine; Dr Shamim Akhtar, CCAEE; Dr Mohammad Amir and NSS Abdullah, Department of Mass Communication among others.

AMU decided to adopt five villages of Aligarh district to transform them into model villages. The visit of the core committee members was meant to take stock of situation and identify work area to complete the process of the adoption of villages in both letter and spirit as desired by the President of India as Visitor of the university and under directives from the Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd.), a release from Dr Rahat Abrar, AMU PRO, said.
The team visited villages Jarauthi, Bhimgarhi and Jattpura and interacted with Pradhans of these villages Roshan Singh, Yadavendra Singh and Nawab Singh along with other village people, who gave a very enthusiastic response and assured the visiting team of their full cooperation in implementing the objectives.
The visiting team identified the problems such as Literacy and Primary Education, Health and Hygiene, Waste Disposal, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, recreational facilities for youth, development of infrastructure etc.
The villagers expressed concern over air pollution and subsequent rise in breathing and respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis etc. due to closely situated factories and flying ash from thermal power plant. The team also noted that water pollution has detrimentally affected the animals causing large number of deaths of cattle in recent years, the release added.
